Tax personality of the year

The “Tax Personality of the Year” award aims to recognize individuals and organizations who, through their dedication and leadership, have significantly contributed to the implementation of new tax regulations that positively impact taxpayers worldwide. This award seeks to highlight contributions to educating people on the necessity and benefits of tax competition, as well as the preservation of strong property and privacy rights.

This recognition aligns with the goals of The 1841 Foundation, which promotes tax competition, privacy and property rights, and educates the global community on these crucial issues.
2025 Tax Personality of the Year

Luis Lacalle Pou

President of Uruguay from 2020 to 2025

During his term, Lacalle Pou promoted an open, predictable country model that respected legal certainty, positioning Uruguay as a regional example of institutional stability and fiscal responsibility. His balanced approach, combining prudence in public spending with policies that encouraged investment and employment, reflects the vision that The 1841 Foundation promotes in all of its initiatives.

Among the reasons motivating this recognition, we particularly highlight his management during the pandemic and the reforms introduced to the “tax holiday” regime, which positioned the country as a more competitive destination without compromising its international reputation.

Who will be awarded?

For the selection of the winner each year, the jury will ensure that the candidate meets the following criteria:

Promotion of fairness and transparency in tax systems, in support of taxpayers.

Tangible and measurable results of their actions that reflect a positive impact.

A strong reputation in the tax field with a proven track record of recognized achievements.
